McAuliffe blasts GOP for celebrating health care bill
Any bill that comes out of the much more moderate Senate isn’t likely to be to the liking of House conservatives. Lindsey Graham tweeted Thursday morning, “a bill-finalized yesterday, has not been scored, amendments not allowed, and 3 hours final debate-should be viewed with caution”. Under the Affordable Care Act, single taxpayers with incomes above $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000 annually have to pay an additional 0.9% Medicare payroll tax on the amount they earn above these thresholds.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Republican bill will result in 24 million fewer people having health insurance by 2026, compared to Obama’s 2010 statute. That regulation requires insurers to sell plans to all comers, regardless of how healthy they are, and prohibits insurers from charging someone with, say, cancer higher premiums than they would charge a healthy person.
The House passed the Affordable Care Act by a 219-212 vote.
Passage would also send it to an uncertain fate in the Senate, where some Republicans consider the House measure too harsh.
For Republicans, Arcuri was an easy target. Massive phishing attack hits Gmail users Lawmakers grill IRS, Education officials over data breach MORE (D-Va.) piled on to his colleagues’ attacks, trying out new nicknames for the latest iteration of the healthcare system that Republicans had disparagingly labeled ObamaCare.
Many have shared on Twitter their thoughts about the new health care bill and the potential impact on their own care, using the hashtag #IAmPreExistingCondition.
Arcuri lost his re-election campaign against Republican challenger Richard Hanna.
“It is a win for Democrats and a loss for conservatives”, said tea party Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va.
What would it take for Republican U.S. House members from Tampa Bay to stand up for their constituents like Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami: “If enacted, the older and poorer South Floridians will be worse off and find it more hard to obtain quality health care”.
The bill is the first part of a three-pronged approach to repealing and replacing Obamacare.
That, in a nutshell, is why the House passed its health care reform bill.
The sweeping, 1,665-page bill also increases spending for NASA, medical research, and the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies. He then played a clip of Ryan saying in 2009, “I don’t think we should pass bills that we haven’t read that we don’t know what they cost”. The vote was a razor-thin 217-213, with 20 Republicans joining every Democrat in opposition.
Trump declared Obamacare “essentially dead” and hailed the efforts of House Speaker Paul Ryan.
“With this vote, we have ended the individual mandate, blocked federal funding from going to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, phased out Medicaid expansion, reduced regulations and taxes, and gutted Obamacare”, Lamborn said.
Earlier this week, moderates objected that constituents with pre-existing conditions could effectively be denied coverage by insurers charging them exorbitant premiums. “It will be a very different process that will look very different from the one that we just saw unfolding in the House”. A half-hour before the vote, both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence tried to get him to switch his vote. The Chamber of Commerce supported the bill.
While the election is 18 months away, and a lot can and will change in that time, potential challengers and donors consider such rankings when deciding which members of Congress to challenge or where to spend their money. That means he will only need Republican votes, which is all he can rely on anyway since Democrats are refusing to participate in dismantling Obama’s law.
“This has really brought the republican party together”. They tend to go nowhere. This year, however, insurance premiums under Covered California jumped by an average 13.2 percent after 4 percent increases the two previous years.
Arcuri voted for the Affordable Care Act and paid the price. She lost re-election the next year. Could Katko face the same fate?
