Reasons Why Season 2 Will Still Center on Hannah Baker
The Health Minister has given his view on controversial Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, saying he’s anxious it could be glamourising suicide.
The Netflix series 13 Reasons Why traces the life events of teenager Hannah Baker, who sends a series of tapes to classmates she believes played a role in her death by suicide.
DARIEN – The new Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” takes place in a small, suburban town that could be anywhere.even Darien.
The Netflix is also gaining attention in the office of Dr. Beth Creel, a grief counselor at the Children’s Heart Center next to Summerlin Hospital. If you do an all-school assembly after a student suicide, says Avi Astor, it could “glorify” and “normalize” the behavior.
“She gets glory out of killing herself”, said Cipolla. He revealed on his blog that he wouldn’t want his own children to watch the show, although he admitted that it did not really “glamorize” suicide.
Mink said viewing the series could be troubling for students, especially those already dealing with mental-health issues or who have been close to someone who either attempted or committed suicide.
Did you know depression and mental health issues are the leading cause of suicide in teens? “So many people stay silent, and that does not heal”. “After seeing Hannah have so many doors shut in her face, others may be discouraged from seeking help”, she says.13 Reasons Why disregards the relationship between mental disorders and suicide, presenting a surface-level analysis. I definitely think that they got a couple of things wrong.
Caroline Dew, a junior at McCracken County High School, said, “Almost everyone is talking about it”, but that doesn’t make her want to see the show. “We stayed very true to the book and that’s initially what Jay Asher created, was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story, and I think that’s what we wanted to do”, the 24-year-old singer explained to the Associated Press.
“There is widespread concern from educators and mental-health professionals across the province about the contents of this series and we feel those concerns are valid”, Beal said. It shows what can happen when people don’t look out for each other and fail to recognize the warning signs of suicide. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death in teenagers, and every one of the warning signs Alex exhibited should have been taken seriously. They have also launched a13 Reasons Why website to provide resource information regarding some of the serious matters discussed in the show.
Netflix also has a documentary called “13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons” which includes suicide-prevention resources. Although Hannah is rightly portrayed as a victim of circumstances, the tapes she records blame the secondary survivors: her peers and school counselor. It does more than generate conversation about a previously taboo topic.
“I can imagine how scary this is for parents”, said Bosco.
