Fired Ohio cop used stun gun on motorist in 2012
As sirens from more police screamed in the background, Lindenschmidt encountered another officer who asked what had happened.
“These officers have been truthful and honest about what happened and no charges are warranted”, he said in a statement.
Fehr says in order for Tensing to be fired the University must show just cause and grant a pre-disciplinary hearing.
“If it were not for that video camera, Sam would be no different than all of the others, because the second officer was ready to corroborate every lie that the first officer said in the report”, Allen said.
And thus, murder charges merely to quiet a potential protest.
The incident was captured on Tensing’s body camera. Tensing had worked as a police officer with the University of Cincinnati for over a year when he pulled Dubose over because his auto didn’t have a front license plate.
Representatives from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department told the Cincinnati television station WCPO that the 25-year-old officer left the jail at about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
The auto started slowly rolling forward as Tensing reached in and yelled for him to stop. Deter says. Some people in the courtroom applauded when the bond was set – the judge ordered them to stop. “You will conduct yourselves at all times appropriately”, she said.
An Ohio judge set a bond of $1 million for Tensing’s release. Shanahan rejected the defence’s contention that Tensing wasn’t a flight risk.
The Hamilton County Court clerk’s website shows Tensing was allowed to post 10 percent of the bail. Footage showed Tensing getting up from the ground after DuBose had been shot.
The death DuBose is the latest in a string of controversial shootings where black people got killed by white cops that include Michael Brown in Ferguson, Tamir Rice in Cleveland and Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina. Authorities so far have not focused on race in DuBose’s death.
“This officer was wrong”, Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said Wednesday, adding that officers “have to be held accountable” when they’re in the wrong.
“This is in the vernacular a pretty “chicken crap” stop”.
“It’s incredible. And so senseless”, Deters said while announcing the charges on Wednesday.
The University of Cincinnati police officer appeared in court in prison stripes and handcuffs. He also had earned a UC degree in criminal justice.
In the official interviews from the other two officers – who aren’t facing charges – “neither officer said that they had seen Tensing being dragged”, according to Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Deters.
“When the officers were specifically asked about what they saw and heard, their statements matched Tensing’s body camera video”, Deters said.
Mathews said Tensing “was in fear of his life at the time” of the shooting.
After failing to provide a driver’s licence at Tensing’s request, Mr DuBose tried to prevent Tensing from opening the vehicle door as the officer ordered him to remove his seat belt.
“If we didn’t have a video, I do not believe we would have had an indictment”, Dubose family attorney Mark O’Mara told Slate.
