The American Health Care Act narrowly passed in the U.S. House Thursday. Coverage would be disrupted for millions nearly immediately, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis of a previous iteration of the legislation.
Local Planned Parenthood supporters were going to hold a protest on Friday against the Republicans who voted for this American Health Care Act, but they chose to hold off until next week. “It’s a moral disaster, snatching health care from tens of millions mainly to give the very wealthy a near-trillion-dollar tax cut”, Krugman writes.

THE FACTS: One of the bigger changes to health care under the Republican plan is that it would allow insurers to consider the health risk of customers applying for new coverage if they had a recent gap in coverage. The Congressional Budget Office, the non-partisan government analysis agency, estimated as many as 24 million under a previous version of the bill.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said he expected the Senate will improve the House bill, which represents the culmination of seven years of promises by Republicans to repeal and replace what’s become known as “Obamacare”. Richard Burr, who a year ago said “Obamacare is imploding”, will give a nod to whatever repeal Senate Republicans settle on. Yet enough House Republicans calculated that the political vulnerability of saying yes to the ACHA was preferable to the political consequences of saying no to Obamacare repeal.
After a weekend away, President Trump will face heavy fire in Washington over his health care reform bill.
“Most of benefits go to millionaires”, Stephanopoulos said.
But Democrats likely shouldn’t expect to have much of an effect on the bill that GOP senators could end up approving.
The bill as passed by the House moves in the opposite direction, but Mr. Trump presented it differently.
Kasich said 700,000 people in OH use Medicaid, and many them have a mental illness, drug addictions or chronic diseases. The bill states, word-for-word: “Nothing in this act shall be construed as permitting health insurance issuers to limit access to health coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions”.
Even the nine Republicans in districts Clinton won who voted against the AHCA won’t be spared, as Democrats will seek to tie them to the members of their party who voted to pass the bill.
