At 100 days in, Trump seems both outsider and insider
Bob Woodward, the veteran Washington Post journalist who with Carl Bernstein broke the Watergate scandal in 1972, addressed Trump’s criticism of the media. “Because of you we couldn’t hang out with Mike Pence”, he added.
He even turned his attention towards Trump’s opponent in the Presidential elections, saying, “Even Hillary Clinton couldn’t be here tonight”.
Inside the ballroom, storied journalists celebrated the first amendment as President Donald Trump rocked a patriotic rally in Pennsylvania to mark his 100th day in office. “From now on it’s going to be America first”. And I would like to thank Donald Trump for inspiring the next. But next year maybe we will make it more exciting for them in Washington.
But during an interview with “Face the Nation” on CBS aired Sunday, Trump said the measure has a “clause that guarantees” that people with pre-existing conditions will be covered. “Gotcha!'” he said. “I just wish someone had told me all you had to say was ‘fake news” over and over again. “It’s special and it carried us to a big, attractive victory on November 8”.
Every year, the dinner has a host and this year it was “The Daily Show” correspondent, Hasan Minhaj. The timing is what made it awkward, screening, as it did, directly after a scathing, hour-long rant in which Trump – at a rally 120 miles away, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – excoriated the “fake news media”, namechecking CNN, MSNBC and, of course, the “failing New York Times” in particular.
That included his decision, just three days into his presidency, to withdraw the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership with Australia, New Zealand, Japan and eight other Pacific nations.
In other comments that would have been closely watched in Canberra, Mr Trump said he would make a decision in the next two weeks on America’s support for the Paris Agreement on climate change. “And we will build the wall”.
Despite a renewed White House effort push, the House did not vote last week on a revised bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Health Care Act.
Throughout Trump’s speech, law enforcement officers removed several attendees from the arena, many for what appeared to be disruptive behavior.
“For the nine people watching on C-SPAN, there also was another elephant in the room, but Donald Trump Jr. shot it and cut off its tail”.
CNN commentator Van Jones said Trump missed a good opportunity to rally his base at the correspondents’ dinner.
Ferrell walked onto the stage as the former president to massive applause, asking, “How do you like me now?”
We’re going to have a lot of student journalists in the room who are going to be recognized for their hard work. He further said, “We look to you guys as our leaders. Unfortunately, that’s partly due to a golden president who’s rumored to enjoy golden showers.” . It is not. No one wanted to do this.
This is not the first time he is making fun of Trump though.
