IPL 2017: Struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore to face Rising Pune Supergiant
All of SRH’s four wins have come at home and they need to quickly solve the away puzzle.
The IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore was today called off without a ball being bowled as incessant rain made the ground unplayable. This was particularly great from RCB bowlers because KKR had a flying start, with Sunil Narine blasting as an opening batsman once again.
His team all but out of contention for a place in the IPL play-offs, a dejected RCB skipper Virat Kohli found his team’s horrendous performance inexplicable. RCB’s innings were record-breaking for all the wrong reasons. RCB’s previous lowest total under this condition was 105 against Rajasthan Royals in 2009. It is the first time in his IPL career that he has fallen for three successive single-digit scores.
The fallout: RPS are now two wins clear of the bottom four and could make that gap even bigger when they take on fifth-placed Gujarat on Monday.
“It was a pretty polished performance and we saw some young quicks Nathu and Basil, really stand up with the new ball against some of the best players to have ever played this format”, Finch said. At that point, Bangalore was 60-5 in less than 10 overs.
Rising Pune Supergiant won the contest by a comfortable 61 run margin.
Finch (72) signalled his intentional when he struck two sixes and as many boundaries in his first eight deliveries as Gujarat ended the powerplay at 49 for two. However, there is a silver lining.
The match in a tweet: Kohli holds as RCB fall apart! They have been a pale reflection of the team that thrashed opposition at will last season and reached the final. RCB can not afford any more slipups. Kohli desperately needed two points to kick-start the second half of its league matches.
With Chris Gayle not picked, Travis Head (five) stepped up to partner Kohli at the top of the RCB order but lasted just five balls – bowled on the pull by Unadkat.
Tripathi was dropped by Kohli early on in his innings and he made the Royal Challengers pay as he scored 37 from 28 deliveries.
Virat Kohli wore a blank look on his face.
Gujarat sailed to a seven-wicket on Thursday, dealing another blow to RCB’s chances. They (bowlers) are being very consistent for us, hopefully, then can continue it and win us a few more games.
