Hillary Clinton Is Set to Air First Campaign TV Ads
Hillary Rodham Clinton is spending $2 million airing the first television ads of her presidential race in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
“You probably know the rest”, the narrator says in a nod to Clinton’s well-known recent history, before offering some highlights: “The senator who made sure the heroes and families of 9/11 got the care they needed” and, with a picture of Clinton and President Barack Obama on screen, “the secretary of state who joined the Cabinet of the man who defeated her, because when your president calls you serve”.
“When I think about why I’m doing this I think about my mother Dorothy”.
The first Iowa ad she aired in 2007 was not as personal as the two spots that will begin airing Tuesday, although it was described in an Associated Press account as an effort to soften her image. Be it through sharing the Dickensian tale of her mother, or reveling in her new role as a grandmother, Clinton is intent on reversing the trend by introducing voters to the candidate her campaign contends is “the most unknown well-known person in the world”.
Hillary Clinton’s first tv advertisements will hit the airwaves this week, presenting the Democratic candidate for president as a lifelong fighter for youngsters and households. Bernie Sanders, has inched closer to Clinton in New Hampshire and Iowa, the two key early voting states, with authenticity as a central element of his appeal. That’s why I’ve always done this: “for all the Dorothys”.
Dorothy is Clinton’s late mother.
Clinton’s first ad buy goes on the air just days after new reports suggested that Vice President Joe Biden is seriously considering whether to pursue the Democratic nomination.
“Since Day 1, we’ve planned for a competitive primary with Hillary herself working to earn every vote and, ultimately, the nomination”, he said.
They are designed to counter $34 million in air time that has been spent or reserved in the four early states – Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada – by Republican presidential candidates and their supporting super political action committees. In it, Clinton tells of her mother’s childhood abandonment, her reliance on the kindness of strangers, and the values she instilled in her family.
The second ad focuses on Clinton’s career as a lawyer and in public service, and it includes one of Clinton’s favorite campaign trail talking points: “a new title: ‘grandma, ‘” in reference to the fact that Chelsea Clinton gave birth to a daughter, Charlotte, earlier this year. “This is the natural next step”, Mook said in a prepared statement Sunday.
But Clinton has also suffered from an ongoing saga over her use of a private email address on a personal server during her tenure as America’s top diplomat, as well as questions about her family foundation’s acceptance of foreign contributions. “For all the Dorothy’s”.
Her chief primary challenger, Vermont Sen.
Clinton has seen a downturn in some poll numbers – particularly on questions of whether Americans view her favorably and believe she is trustworthy – since launching her campaign in April.
