Word on the Street: Ice bucket Challenge returns
The ALS Society of Quebec is trying to make the ice bucket challenge a viral phenomenon for the second straight year. For unknown reasons, veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS as the general population.
The Red Sox joined Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of the challenge, in relaunching the successful fundraising campaign Friday at Fenway Park. “Pat and I can’t wait to kick things off this Friday at Fenway”.
Rose said what had been planned as a family day for employees morphed into the ice bucket challenge to pay tribute to their boss.
Former Canadiens and Bruins hockey player PJ Stock said he was one of the people who did the challenge without donating.
“As the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge hits every ballpark around the country, we hope it will get bigger and bigger”.
Gosnell, 47, a Hanover resident who started the company 28 years ago, was diagnosed with ALS in May, said company president Steven Rose.
These materials also provide suggestions for people living in drought areas as to how they can participate without water.
Last year, the challenge raised more than $100 million for ALS research in just six weeks.
The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front.
The campaign raked in more than $115-million nationwide, so the ALS Association is hoping to echo that this time around.
“We can’t wait to see what this summer brings, and we look forward to applying the funds raised during the Challenge in year two to research that will provide insight into the causes of ALS and potentially lead us to treatments and cures”, said Derks.
