Ryan: House to Send Healthcare Bill to Senate in a Few Weeks
Kansas legislative leaders must satisfy members in disparate but nearly equal groups who want to set a school-funding target before voting on tax increases.
In the State House, the pressure is growing on lawmakers to complete work on a new, two-year state budget. “Apparently it’s gone from one chair to the other chair in the desks before me”, the Maryland Democrat needled House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in their colloquy on the floor Friday.
“That really gets waylaid by the day-to-day issue of the hour, ” Rounds said. As the Bloomberg piece observes, “Republicans had a sizable deficit reduction cushion – $150 billion – before several amendments were added to the bill at the last minute, including changes allowing states to legalize much skimpier health insurance plans”. The governor vetoed a similar bill in February.
Several delegates voted to advance the proposal to the full House of Delegates, while pointing out it does not raise enough revenue to avoid major cuts to state programs and services.

A total rollback of the tax cuts would raise an estimated $1.4 billion over two years.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) will release its updated assessment of the GOP-passed Trumpcare bill next week-potentially causing more problems for the Republican Party, President Donald Trump, and the much-maligned legislation.
The bill had been introduced at least two times during the regular legislative sessions in the past and was passed by the Senate, but ended up rejected by the House of Delegates, said Sen.
By afternoon the pace slowed considerably.
The Senate revenue bill offered a tiered system for assessing severance tax that would have had companies paying a lower rate on their producing during lean times, and a higher rate when revenues were higher. Changes have been made, but aides are confident CBO will show them well within that window.
House Republicans’ response to the public and their Senate peers was: Don’t worry.
Denning said he thinks a new revenue stream specifically earmarked for education is needed because the state general fund “cannot handle the stress of K-12 funding”.
“By the end of June we’ll have a balanced budget on the governor’s desk”, Spilka pledged. “We fully anticipate being in compliance”, the Oregon Republican said. “By winning on these issues, we can ensure that-contrary to the mean-spirited GOP House bill-families will get the care they need when they need it”.
