Terry: I haven’t ruled out retirement after Chelsea
Cesc Fabregas scored in the 88th minute to lift champions Chelsea to a wild 4-3 win over Watford on Monday night to match the Premier League record for wins in a season.
Chelsea icon John Terry scored in what is likely to be his penultimate game for the newly-crowned champions and suggested unless a good offer came along he might retire after Sunday’s final Premier League match.
“At this moment I have 13 or 14 players and they deserve to play the FA Cup, and many players in good form”. But it has certainly served me well for the future when hopefully one day I become a manager.
“I really don’t want to say anything about, so far”, Conte told TransferMarketWeb when asked about whether he will stay put at Chelsea or leave.
And the Swansea boss will press ahead with an approach for Terry, even though he is not sure what other negotiations the defender has held.
“He has been brilliant with me”, he said. Leaving me out of the side was probably a tough decision, but… the honesty, the respect and the communication has been fantastic.
“I’m so proud of this team and all the players and management for all the hard work, effort and sacrifices everyone has made this season”. I’ve made a lot of progress.
The win took Chelsea’s wins tally to 29, meaning the west Londoners can cap off their highly successful season with a 30th win against Sunderland on the weekend.
That is the next target for Terry, who expects an emotional conclusion to his Chelsea career.
“I was sitting there hoping the boys did well and kept winning”. “The most important thing was we won”. We have been first since game 12 so obviously we have showed consistency.
At the heart of the action was attacking midfielder Willian, who has been forced to endure a reduced role in Chelsea’s title bid since Antonio Conte brought in his 3-4-3 system. “I have a plan in my head to play the final”, Conte said.
“This opportunity keeps our concentration, keeps our focus very high”.
And Okaka looked to have spoiled the party as he fired a low shot past Asmir Begovic in the 74th minute just moments after coming off the bench.
