Biden’s late son urged him to run for US presidency
Last week, a Quinnipiac poll showed that Biden had the highest favorability rating, 49 percent, that he has ever had in his seven years as vice president. The vice president has spent nearly every weekend since May in Wilmington, Del., particularly focused on his grandchildren. Her use of a private e-mail server for business communications has raised concerns that classified communications may have been compromised – a suggestion Clinton vehemently denies – and the relationship of her family’s foundation to individuals and corporations with interests before the U.S. government also have raised ethical questions. Seventy-two percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents said they are satisfied with their choice of candidates, potentially leaving some wiggle room for Biden.
“Hillary Clinton’s our candidate now”, he added. “Any speculation about the views of the vice president or his family about his political future is premature and inappropriate”.
But going through the crucible of the loss of his oldest son, Beau, to brain cancer made the vice president consider the quest again. He traveled to Colorado and California for official and political events.
While in New York, the vice president’s chief of staff was spotted having breakfast with Lou Susman, a major Democratic donor. Momentum for a Biden run hasn’t slowed, organizers say, as Clinton begins laying out policy positions in early voting states. But individuals familiar with the meeting said Susman and Ricchetti are longtime friends and that Susman initiated the meeting. “But he had a mission: he tried to make his father promise to run, arguing that the White House should not revert to the Clintons and that the country would be better off with Biden values”.
Biden’s path, should he run, would not be easy.
At the moment, Biden’s priority continues to be his family’s well-being.
Vice President Joe Biden is “actively” exploring a 2016 presidential run, according to the New York Times. During his first run, his candidacy was bogged down by allegations of plagiarism, and he quickly folded his campaign. Draft Biden, a super PAC formed by the Democrats’ supporters on the ground, recently released a digital ad where several supporters declared they are “ridin’ with Biden”.
The prospects of Biden running, his advocates say, are rooted not only in his own ambitions, but also with an eye toward helping the party put forward a stronger nominee to run against Republicans.
