Almost 6 in 10 oppose Trump scrapping Paris agreement
Macron, in a joint news conference with Bloomberg and Hidalgo, said the Paris climate pact is irreversible despite US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from it.
“If the USA drops out of the climate agreement… for European trade policy, this means that American production sites don’t need to abide by the climate goals”, Germany’s center-left chancellor candidate said on Thursday, speaking at the WDR Europa Forum in Berlin.

Australia’s Prime Minister told reporters earlier on Friday that Trump’s decision to leave the Paris agreement – and earlier decision to abandon the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement – “herald a United States withdrawal from global leadership”.
The Chinese and European Union leaders pledged full implementation of the Paris deal, committing to cut back on fossil fuels, developing more green technology and raising funds to help poorer countries reduce their emissions. “We’re going to have the cleanest water”, Trump said Thursday while announcing his decision to leave Paris.

The president of the Federated States of Micronesia, Peter Christian who chairs the Forum, said island countries are now more determined and committed to taking serious action to address climate change and remain steadfast in their obligations under the agreement.
Mr Trump revealed his decision during a speech in the White House Rose Garden. Mr Obama had pledged to cut the nation’s emissions by 26-28 per cent by 2025. Among those who oppose Trump’s decision, 77 percent say it will hurt American leadership.
“Today we are stepping up our cooperation on climate change with China”.
“As far as the Paris accord is concerned. our government is committed, irrespective of the stand of anyone, anywhere in the world”, said Japan’s finance mMinister, Taro Aso, adding: “I’m not just disappointed, but also feel anger”.
Trump’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, however, said on television the withdrawal would help keep US energy markets competitive, allowing for a potential for coal.
