Chris Pine Loved His ‘Harrison Ford’ Moment In Wonder Woman

Anticipation for the first female-focused superhero movie to hit the multiplex in years (and we’re still trying to forget past efforts like “Elektra” and “Catwoman”) may be enough for the movie, starring Gal Gadot as the iconic DC Comics superhero, to soar past projections.

When Gal Gadot was cast as WONDER WOMAN there was a lot of backlash all over the world, and this site was not immune. Roven recently confirmed that it would be hard for movies to exist within the DC cinematic universe in the space between Batman v Superman and Justice League, confirming the latter takes place nearly directly after the former. It rewinds to World War I and her first meetings with men, which begin when fighter pilot Steve Trevor crash lands off the shore of Themyscira, home to the Amazons, the race of God-created women to which Diana belongs. “I felt like Kate Capshaw or something in Indiana Jones”.

“Fighting does not make you a hero”, the monarch reminds her impetuous daughter, who is tutored in hand-to-hand combat by her grizzled aunt (Robin Wright). During a battle against the Germans, she climbs out of the grim trenches of the front line, effortlessly crossing the German lines and deflecting bullets with her armor cuffs with a determined serenity. Her compassion and commitment to justice are part of her power. The one person with more knowledge of war is dismissed because of her gender.

Gadot imbues Diana with a sense of awe. Diana’s unvarnished idealism is a refreshing take on superhumans that is often missing from superhero films. Some fans are buying tickets for opening night not just to see the film but as a show of support for Jenkins. While Steve Trevor is the more realist of two, he’s also the more humorous one.

Wonder Woman will be the first summer blockbuster in a long, long time to put a female superhero at its center. The posters for the film feature Gadot in muscular poses on her own, largely leaving out male co-stars. That’s the lesson she learns within the film. Her costumes too are in sync with her character. “You had Meryl Streep and Charlize Theron but it wasn’t common to see great roles for women”, she says.
