Cleveland Cavaliers Rumor Mill: Paul George traded to Oklahoma City Thunder
In a shocking move, Paul George has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Also, with a shooter like Alex Abrines backing up Roberson, that could be flawless to balance the bench and starting lineup with defense and scoring when you have scoring threats like Westbrook and George in the starting lineup and Roberson locking up the opponent’s best player. Now, nearly a year later, they acquire one of the NBA’s most dominant, two-way perimeter threats. Roberson is one of the best defensive players in the National Basketball Association, and the combination of him and George on the wings could be fantastic on that end of the court.
He’s been open about his desire to sign with the Lakers. What’s more is that the Pacers supposedly turned down a monster offer from Boston.
As part of the megadeal, the Pacers will acquire former Indiana Hoosier Victor Oladipo and second-year big man Domantas Sabonis.
In the 2017-18 season, Oladipo will make $21 million, George $19.3 million. Luke Walton will be able to allow his young players like Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball to play heavy minutes and ultimately earn valuable experience. If the Celtics are content hoarding those assets and playing the long game, why take on a massive deal for a star who might not any longer be a star by the time the rest of those assets mature into contender-quality pieces? George has also maintained that he wants to play for the Lakers and if there is any sort of a special friendship between George and his fellow Southern California native Westbrook they’ve kept it quiet.
With a core of league MVP Russell Westbrook, George and Adams, the Thunder once again become one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference, though still significantly behind the champion Golden State Warriors.
With George now reportedly heading to Oklahoma City, the Thunder have now perhaps two of the league’s best perimeter defenders on its roster. One player who seems to be on his way out is Andre Iguodala, the 2015 Finals MVP, who is meeting with the San Antonio Spurs and seems intent on changing scenery after winning two titles with the Warriors. We have seen “super teams” that had the talent but just didn’t have the chemistry to win games.
