This is why Americans celebrate the Fourth of July
On July 4, 2017, the United States of America will celebrate its 241st birthday- 241 years of independence, liberty, freedom, and the uninterrupted pursuit of happiness.
Also, a salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a “salute to the union”, would be fired on July 4 at noon at various military bases.
This historical document we celebrate every year declared our independence from British rule. Our country is no longer a confederation of thirteen small colonies.
Maybe you’ll watch a fireworks extravaganza.
Most of us had to memorize portions of the Declaration of Independence – a doctrine that sent the United States of America into a war against Great Britain.
Tuesday is Independence Day and I wanted to stop for a minute and reflect on what that means.
Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the country’s third president, both died on the country’s 50anniversary of Independence Day.
But we don’t celebrate July 2 or September 3. The Independence Day is filled with fireworks, feats, picnics, baseball, parties and family gathering. People also share wishes, quotes, images of Happy American Independence Day.
Several stores will remain open on Independence Day and Monday – some being in operation for altered hours.
While here in this country, the focus is often on political disputes and discord, throughout the world America is still viewed as the land of freedom. The day signifies importance for the fact of unity and integrity of American people.
“The American, by nature, is optimistic”.
The first Fourth of July, like the Continental Congress that ratified the declaration, came to us in a spontaneous celebration in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, that included dinner and a reception for the Continental Congress – and fireworks.

As we face uncertainty from within and overseas, we should remember it has always been the American attitude of perseverance and ingenuity that gets us through tough times.

The United States whose independence they proclaimed and subsequently chartered under the Articles of Confederation became our Republic on June 21, 1788 when New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution.
It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you. Our government has become overcome with strife from top to bottom, a system almost paralyzed by division.
