Wayne Rooney to return to childhood club Everton
The Times is claiming that the Toffees are looking to ramp up their bid to bring Rooney back to Goodison Park this summer.
Manchester United are happy to let Rooney leave Old Trafford this summer.
With Jose Mourinho taking over as manager at Manchester United last year, the 31-year old Rooney started just 15 Premier League matches and was subbed on in 10 others.
Rooney was again seen at a spin class in Liverpool on Wednesday as he tries to build up his fitness before United’s players are due to report for pre-season on Saturday.
If the transfer is not completed by then, it remains in the balance whether Rooney will be in Mourinho’s squad for the trip.
This will free Rooney to pen a two-year deal worth £250,000-a-week with the Toffees, who will have the option of an extra season.
His agent held talks with Chinese clubs over a move in February, but it seems Rooney could return to his boyhood club Everton, 13 years after he left Goodison Park for Manchester United.
Since moving to Manchester, the striker has gone on to become United’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 253 strikes.
If Romelu Lukaku departs Everton, the Toffees will reportedly make a £20 million move for the France global, who has seemingly been replaced by Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette. If true, that would be a club record, smashing the current record fee of almost $55 million that was paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2014.
The 26-year-old forward, who has 11 France caps, agreed a long-term contract with the Gunners.
This revelation has come as a shock to many fans…
That would have been nearly impossible, had he made the move to China, and it is also understood Rooney’s representatives were put off by the standard of football there.
