MACC files police report on ‘charge sheet’ leak
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said funds amounting to RM2.6 billion supposedly deposited into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal account, were campaign donations and not funds from state investment company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The MACC is still continuing its investigations into SRC global involving funds of RM4bil.
“It is hoped that all those concerned will remain patient and give the MACC room to conduct a thorough investigation”, it said.
As an independent commission, the MACC said it conducted its investigations without fear or favour, regardless of who was involved.
The anti-graft body also stressed that it was not involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
It reiterated that none of its officers were involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
“MACC would also like to clarify that it did not leak any information pertaining to the investigation to outsiders”.
“MACC will not let anyone influence or meddle in its investigation”, it said, adding that members of the public should not speculate on the issues until its investigation is concluded.
A senior MACC enforcement officer from its intelligence unit lodged a report at the Putrajaya police headquarters here to deny the allegations. Two officers of the MACC and an official from the attorney-general’s office were arrested over the weekend.
On July 31, the MACC had said that the purported draft of the charge sheet against the prime minister was unfounded because the investigation on the SRC worldwide Sdn Bhd was still ongoing and had yet to be sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
