Rose feels it’s time for him to be Open champion
The Northern Irishman has not added to his four majors since winning the US PGA Championship in 2014, while his form heading to Royal Birkdale has been underwhelming. We marvel at the beauty of Augusta National and the Masters.
Growing up in Glasgow, Kent Bulle and his friends would imagine themselves walking the hallowed fairways of some of the most prestigious golf courses in the world, playing the back nine in the final round of a major championship. The British Open seems to come and go without much fanfare each calendar year.
“In golf, I guess you’re only a couple of good shots from picking up some nice solid feelings and from having a really good week”, Stenson said.
Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of the R&A, Clive Brown, Chairman of the R&A Championship Committee, and Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director of Championships at the R&A were speaking to assembled media ahead of The Open, live on Sky Sports The Open, beginning on Thursday at Royal Birkdale. But I got over here early; I got here on Saturday. This is something you can’t do anything about but you still can enjoy the tournament. “The only reason why I think a lot of people think I’m slow is that when I was playing well, I was in a lot of groups on Sundays, in the last few groups and usually everyone takes their time on the last few groups on Sunday”. It lacks the soul-destroying bunkers of St Andrews, those that feel like you are trying to wedge out of the earth’s mantle, but the wind whips in from the Irish Sea and the weather forecast this weekend appears to fall on the ominous side of bad.
Woods has won the Open three times, most recently at Hoylake, not far from Birkdale, in 2006.
“So clearly I think I’m a credible contender on any golf course, but bring me to a links golf course and it gives me an advantage for sure”. I don’t feel extra pressure from it.
The six-time major victor made his Open debut at Birkdale in 1976 and squandered a chance to win at the same venue in 1983, which prompted him to radically change his swing to cope under the pressure of major championships. I’ve always found it a bit easier to learn from other sportsmen than I have from golfers.
Rickie Fowler (15-1): Rickie continues to knock on the door in seemingly every Major but when will he be able to kick the door in? He is solid in all parts of his game and is ready to take the title.
“That makes a lot of sense to me”, he said. You see them watch it and see them now impressed, and now it’s a Lego scene, that’s how you know it was a cool achievement. It should be fun and is a different look at the great game of golf.
“Yes, I’m watching the tennis, but I’m watching him more than anything and seeing what I can pick up”.
