Linkin Park singer, Phoenix native Chester Bennington takes own life

Chester Bennington, the singer of nu-metal pioneers Linkin Park, has died aged 41, according to the LA County Coroner.

Linkin Park bandmate Mike Shinoda confirmed Bennington’s death on Twitter. Elias said the death was being handled as an apparent suicide. The news came out shortly after about his death.

He is survived by his wife Talinda Ann, six children and his first wife, Samantha Marie Olit. Linkin Park broke through in 2000 with their debut album “Hybrid Theory“.

Mr. Bennington, who was known for his piercing scream and free-flowing anguish, released seven albums with Linkin Park.

Bennington was in the midst of a tour with Linkin Park and was scheduled to play Citi Field in New York City with Blink 182 next week in support of Linkin Park’s new album, “One More Light“. There was a bit of speculation by fans that he didn’t commit suicide, but his death was later ruled a suicide. In 2004 LP teamed with rapper Jay-Z for a collaborative EP titled Collision Course. Bennington was also a founding member of another band, Dead by Sunrise and performed with the Stone Temple Pilots. When his friend Chris Cornell died in May, he wrote an open letter to remember him and posted it online.
