Nitish to be sworn in as Bihar CM again on Thursday
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge also alleged that BJP is using every tactic to break the Opposition. “From Delhi to Bihar, it is a planned conspiracy”.
Lalu recently made overtures to Dalit leader Mayawati, who commands a dominant position in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state representing the largest number of parliamentary seats. Surjewala said it is an affront to the people’s mandate and a “double whammy” for democracy that within 20 months, the politics of opportunism was repeated “when a party rejected by the people and a leader hungry for power at any cost formed a government overnight”.
Given Congress’ long association with RJD, many argue that the former could have convinced Lalu Prasad to ask his son to quit the Cabinet for the time-being.
The rift followed the filing of a case by the CBI against Lalu Prasad, his wife and former chief minister Rabri devi and son Tejashwi in a land-for-hotels case.
It should be noted that earlier on Wednsday evening Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar resigned from the post of Bihar Chief Minister on Wednesday.
“I promise that I will stay committed to the people of Bihar”, Kumar told reporters after taking oath in state capital Patna.
“When I was facing allegations, Nitish Kumar never called me or showed any sympathy. The RJD will not allow the Assembly to function”, Singh said. We are hurt and we will raise the matter in the forthcoming national executive committee of the JD (U).
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar at the Raj Bhawan in Patna on Thursday.
Nitish chose to tender his resignation after Lalu called a meeting of his party leaders on Wednesday afternoon and made it clear that his son would not quit, and also reminded Nitish that the RJD had made him the CM.
He joined hands with his bitter regional rival, Lalu Prasad Yadav, to stall the march of the BJP in Bihar.
“The ACJM ordered issuance of summons against Nitish in violation of the high court’s order dated April 22, 2009”, the JD (U) senior said, adding Nitish Kumar challenged the ACJM’s order in the high court.
“Nitish Kumar is a huge opportunist”.
On paper, the votes of Kumar’s regional JDU party and Modi’s BJP would secure a narrow majority in the Bihar state legislature. Hence, Bihar assembly should be dissolved and a fresh election to be conducted to get a clear mandate from the people.
The RJD Chief said, “If anyone who kept the country together that was Mahatma Gandhi”.
