Sling gets its first PPV event with UFC 214

Cormier’s tenacity and heart are astounding and his seemingly natural ability to get right under Jones’ skin is adding a special flavour to this feud.

For Cormier, it’s about legacy. Coming off a hefty layoff – one that notably stems from a PED-related suspension – Jones has the pressure of not only defeating his greatest adversary, but doing so on the heels of a yearlong hiatus. He said he’s done worrying about Jones’ personal crises. It’s odd to think that this is at the forefront of a pay-per-view headlining matchup between two of the greatest mixed martial artists of our time. Beating a great talent like Jones puts him in an elite category, one that would follow him as he enters the final stage of his career at 39 years old. And I would gladly take his 20%. I stared having fun and partying, and (I was) still winning. “I was taking everything for granted and making mistakes”. This should be taken with a grain of salt.

It was only a year ago, after all, when Jones was sitting on stage speaking about his new sober life and the lessons he’d learned from the vehicle crash.

Hunt has waged a war on doping since it was revealed Lesnar failed multiple drug tests prior to their bout last July and has filed a civil lawsuit against him and the UFC, accusing them of willfully circumventing the system. Since that time, Cormier has been the reigning light heavyweight kingpin with two successful title defenses. The former Olympic wrestler from Oklahoma State was unbeaten as a heavyweight before going down to light heavyweight as a nod to his gym teammate, Cain Velasquez, who was heavyweight champ, and then Cormier cleaned up at 205 pounds, as well.

For some, though, that isn’t enough.

But that doesn’t mean that Lesnar’s not entertaining the idea as he confirmed that he would have no problem testing his skills against arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

At the 2004 Olympics, Cormier lost in the freestyle wrestling semifinals and again later that day. After that I’ve tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn’t want to ruin my face).

For Cormier, this fight is not all about the win. Some don’t care to watch Maia, but I am not in that group, he’s a master at the art and it’s fantastic watching him slowly take someone a part piece by piece. And I think I’m definitely willing to do that. Try to understand this, though; Cormier is booed and Jones is cheered… She struggled to make that weight cut and campaigned for better treatment until White finally agreed to create a featherweight belt. Ovince Saint Preux took the offer and met Jon Jones in a UFC interim light heavyweight title fight at UFC 197.
