Apple iPhone 8 May Have Bezel-Less Display and Infra-red Camera

Another developer, Guilherme Rambo, found the codename for the iPhone 8 in the HomePod firmware.

The code also seems to confirm numerous previously rumored design elements of the iPhone 8.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith says he has found code referencing that last one in HomePod’s firmware.

Apple, famed for its commitment to secrecy, has inadvertently leaked the iPhone 8.

However, the news about the placement of Touch ID is still not clear. Rumors about the iPhone’s almost borderless screen began to emerge as far back as last June, when The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple had planned an edge-to-edge screen for its 2017 iPhone. The firmware for Apple’s upcoming HomePod contains references for a device with a 3x Retina display with a resolution of 1125 x 2436. Troughton-Smith dug deep into the code and pointed at the “Pearl ID” in the Biometric section. The company accidentally pushed out the code yesterday, allowing devs to get an idea of what features may appear in the next iPhone. The IR is crucial for facial recognition in low-light environments.

The icon of the nearly bezel-less device, with its distinct lack of a physical home button and earpiece cut-out, appears to closely match other pictures that have made it into the tech press over the last month.
