What’s your grade for the Cubs at the trade deadline?

The Chicago Cubs acquired lefty reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for third baseman Jeimer Candelario and minor-league shortstop/third baseman Isaac Paredes, multiple reports indicate – including Jon Morosi of MLB.com and every Cubs beat reporter.

Rosales was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Diamondbacks on Monday for minor league right-hander Jeferson Mejia, then the A’s later dealt ace Sonny Gray to the Yankees for three prospects as everyone expected they would do.

Wilson, who turns 30 on August 18, was 3-4 with 13 saves with a 2.68 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 42 relief appearances for Detroit this season. The youngster has hit.261/.341/.399 with seven home runs on the season in what is generally a pitcher-friendly league. Candelario has spent most of this season at Triple-A Iowa, where he has hit.266 with 12 homers, 52 RBIs and an.868 OPS in 68 games.

There was some speculation that this may be the case if left-hander Justin Wilson were traded prior to the trade deadline, and with Wilson heading to Chicago, Greene now will have an open path to save opportunities.

In the midst of a resurgent campaign, Alex Avila was the flawless trade chip. He was even better past year in Triple-A, but has struggled in a small sample size of 50 major league plate appearances (.136/.240/.250) over the last two seasons.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he’ll do his best to spread the workload among the bullpen arms with Tuesday’s arrival of left-handed reliever Justin Wilson.

After releasing Miguel Montero in June, Chicago called up Victor Caratini to back up Contreras. The Tigers (47-56) have a bloated payroll and entered Monday fourth in the American League Central, 10 games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians (57-46).

Paredes, 18, was the fifth-ranked prospect in the Cubs’ system, according to Baseball America.

Dealing the duo obviously negatively impacts the Tigers’ current roster, but it made sense to trade the veterans. If Davis costs too much, the Cubs can switch Wilson to the closer role next season.

Also included in the deal is a player to be named later and cash, heading to Detroit.
