Windows 10 Introduces Gaze Tracking Technology in New Insider Build 16257
As the team explained, this was meant to improve the quality of inbox apps that will ship with the Fall Creators Update in September. “We don’t save or share eye tracking data”, reads a statement containing a link to Microsoft’s privacy statement under feature’s on-and-off toggle.
We have a Tobii Eye Tracker 4C on the way to test this feature out and will provide further coverage of this new capability.
Not all cameras work with Windows’ Eye Control, however, and Tobii’s own Eye Tracker 4C will be the first one to support the new feature. However, as the technology evolves, more devices are expected to become available on the market from manufacturers. After that, head over to Ease of Access Other Options Eye control in the Settings app (Win + I) and enable Eye Control. At the moment, Microsoft is only supporting the EN-US keyboard layout.
The latest Insider Preview version of Windows for developers includes the support for a beta version of the Eye Control. Called Eye Control, the feature will help people with certain neuro-muscular disorders navigate the operating system using their eyes.
To use text-to-speech, select text-to-speech from the launchpad use the keyboard to type out sentences that will then be spoken aloud. It works with a regular on-screen keyboard by just dwelling on the letter you need to type. It will also feature predictive text.
If eye tracking is not of interest, a much needed customization option has been added.
Also, the launchpad partially blocks the “Tobii UI” during device calibration.
The next computer you buy may be controlled with only your eyes. Additionally, the shape-writing feature can be stuck on, but toggling the setting can correct the issue. Also included are improvements to the Console, input behavior, and to Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG). Q. With all the concern about Microsoft Paint going away in the next Windows 10 update, I nearly missed that there’s yet another update to Windows 10 coming out this year.
The feature is now only available with select Tobii hardware and on the EN-US keyboard layout, but additional hardware vendors and layouts will be added in future updates.
