‘Game of Thrones’: Bran’s speech more than just words
The pulse-pounding ending to season 7’s “Spoils of War” wasn’t just Game of Thrones’ best (or second best) choreographed battle, it was also the first time in the show’s history that two “main” characters were facing off against each in a fatal clash. Jaime was last seen sinking to the bottom of a large pool of water.
A storm of fire spewed from the dragon’s mouth, but a late, diving ally, who we assume to be Bronn, saved Jaime from the fire at the last moment.
Hey, Bronn’s back! We caught a glimpse of Tyrion’s former BFF during last week’s episode, but this week we get a full helping of the sarcastic sellsword’s famous sense of humor.
Jaime sourced the gold for King’s Landing in order to repay the Lannisters’ debt to the Iron Bank.
For the first time in this series, the Dothraki rode on Westeros, and Daenerys rode Drogon into battle from the sky. Just as she succeeded, she turned to see him making his way toward her, joust at the ready. With Bran home as the Three-Eyed Raven, with a memory of everything that has ever happened in the world, the North has a tactical advantage.
In this behind-the-scenes featurette from HBO, the show’s creators and crew talk about the massive amount of work that went into the fiery attack the maesters will be writing about for thousands of years. Arya and Sansa reunited!
While the guards bickered, she glanced at a wolf sigil on their banner, and disappeared. After a quiet threat, the not too bright gatekeepers bring the wandering Stark into the Castle grounds and as they argue on who shall inform Lady Sansa about this odd girl claiming to be her dead sister, Arya vanishes. Sansa laughs about it, so Arya does as well.
However, one person might not be so lucky. Even Ser Davos has noticed the rapport between them, joking, “I noticed you staring at her good heart”. The Stark children also debate the meaning of Petyr giving Bran the dagger, which he in turn gives to Arya. Proud? Frustrated that she can’t do the same?
3. Who do you think WON’T make it out of this season alive? When Jon returns with tales of the dragon queen, how will Sansa respond? Also, her insistence that Jon Snow “bends the knee” is just annoying now. Deep inside the dark caverns beneath Dragonstone were walls covered in pre-historic drawings of the First Men and the Children of the Forest fighting as one against their common enemy – the White Walkers. In the time that she’s been away from her family, she’s become a master fighter, assassin and all-around badass. Though she is set on using her dragons to take the kingdom, Jon tells her that it’s best to not follow in the footsteps of those that have destroyed cities.
It was nice, however, to see Dany ask Jon for advice after losing yet another battle to the Lannister forces.
Taking on one of the realm’s greatest fighters, Brienne of Tarth, Arya defeats her easily, as she water-dances around her struggling opponent. But if you think fighting both a Dothraki horde and a dragon the size of an airplane was hard, wait until you see what went into making it.
That doesn’t stop Dany from asking for Jon’s help in defeating Cersei.
This isn’t the first time the two fighters have met.
“It was an extraordinary directing from Matt Shakman, who came in with a lot of pressure on his shoulders”, showrunner David Benioff tells EW.
Another notable reunion was Jon and Theon at Dragonstone. However, while Tycho Nestoris is suddenly considering giving Cersei financial support, he still won’t share a glass of morning wine with her. Oh yeah, it’s about to go down.
