UFC rival thinks Conor McGregor will quit fighting after Mayweather pay day
Some, however, felt that Malignaggi had no right to quibble due to the fact that he had spoken about the sparring sessions in several interviews, albeit without giving away a great deal of specific tactical details, and openly gave his assessment of McGregor’s punching power despite having signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Over the weekend Malignaggi said McGregor “whimpered like a girl” when he took punches to the body and now he’s slammed his ex-partner even further in an explosive hour-long rant on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour.
Many in the world of boxing and UFC feel that posting such a photo of a former world champion was severely lacking in respect.
Others have shared this viewpoint leading up to the bout, sure, but it’s interesting to hear this from Berto, who not only faced Mayweather, but he holds a 31-5 record in boxing.
For hardcore fans, the upcoming slate is indeed outstanding, as next month’s event in Edmonton features a pair of championship bouts and several other intriguing, important matchups, and some of the title fights expected to take place between now and New Year’s Eve are terrific.
I won’t pretend to be a boxing historian, but given how much people cared about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight (admittedly, I found a way to watch it in the library while studying for finals in college, which tells you a few things), it seems foregone that people are also going to care about this one, probably more than you’d think. After blasting the Irishman on Twitter, Malignaggi announced that he would be leaving McGregor’s camp. You break them up. “Especially the way you treat the sparring partners and their living quarters and whatnot”. You have to start getting comfortable being uncomfortable. I didn’t get paid, I’m not anxious about it though. I get to the gym the next day and he has all kinds of dignitaries there.
“I never tried to make things hard for them, but I assumed things would be on a moderate living conditions”. “I mean, yeah, it works”. “I didn’t bring the beef onto myself”.
“The guy is all about his ego”. He’s actually not trying to get better. “He wants to be the guy who always has the advantage, because when he has an advantage he’s a big man”.
All that being said, I don’t have any problem with the match-up being made. “I could see already in the half shape that I was in I was already starting to get the better of him by Tuesday”, Malignaggi said.
“I remember thinking he did show some character to come back the way he did, but if I had been as consistent as I had been, would he still have shown the same character?” The first one came a week earlier and lasted eight rounds.
