Jamie Carragher Reckons Antonio Conte Won’t Last Much Longer At Chelsea
Chelsea‘s lack of progress during the current transfer window has already drawn the ire of manager Antonio Conte and numerous club’s fans and now, club captain Gary Cahill has spoken out about the lack of new faces that have arrived at Stamford Bridge, this summer.
Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill insists that there has been no change in manager Antonio Conte despite rumours of a disagreement with the club’s board over transfer spending.
“Matic’s move to Manchester United was the flawless example of that”, said the ex-Reds man.
Conte will lead Chelsea as they try to win back-to-back league titles for the first time since 2006 and the Italian is wary of the competition from fellow title contenders Tottenhan Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
“But they’ll be saying ‘£45m for a 29-year-old and we’ve got a replacement who is 22’. With Matic performing so superbly well over the last three seasons, I can’t see why”, he said in a radio interview with talkSPORT.
So far this summer, Chelsea have signed Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata and Willy Caballero as they look to get off to a strong start in the league.
And striker Diego Costa remains in exile.
Diego Costa will not be part of Chelsea’s season-opener against Burnley – just 81 days after he celebrated the Premier League title with his team-mates.
Lampard’s comments will concern Chelsea fans, and the club failed to sufficiently strengthen when they were last champions, leading to the dismissal of iconic manager Jose Mourinho.
The England worldwide is also concerned about the squad’s depth following the departure of key players, such as Nemanja Matic, Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah.
Conte is after four more players this summer. The return to the Champions League means that Chelsea need to get better with greater squad depth a big factor in that.
“I think I have already replied to this question and I hope in the future to have a different question”, he added, bridling at the line of enquiry.
Chelsea have 13 or 14 very good players who will match anyone. “The transfer market is still open, and for sure we are looking hard to improve the number, and the quality, of players”, he pointed out recently.
