Christie: Nat’l Teachers Union Most Deserving of ‘Punch in the Face’
Teachers union leaders accused New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie of promoting a “culture of violence and hate” against teachers after the governor said in an interview he would like to punch the unions in the nose because they did not put students first. (Sawchuk wrote a comprehensive article about Christie’s early education record back in 2010.). And they are the single most destructive force in public education in America.
“I’ve been saying that since 2009. I’ve been saying that since 2009, I’ve got the scars to show it and I’ll never stop saying it because they don’t change their stripes”.
It’s not the first time Christie has tussled with the teachers union.
While campaigning for re-election in 2013, the New Jersey Governor scolded a local teacher after she challenged him on his claims that the state’s schools were failing.
Christie has also frequently argued with teachers in public forums.
Reaction to Christie’s latest provocation has been swift and forceful.
Steinhauer had been working with Christie’s administration on a compromise regarding pension payments.
“That’s not news in New Jersey, where voters overwhelmingly reject his immature and inappropriate behavior as well as his failed policies and lack of leadership”, he said.
Without naming the specific union, Christie continued that the union is “not for the education of our children”. One of the three seems destined to end up 11th in the polling and out of the main debate.
“I think Donald is going to be as serious a candidate as he wants to be”, Christie said, but added, “Anybody can do well for a month”. He abruptly backed out of a commission established by Christie.
And then, the record crowd of 60,983 booed.
