Mir could face Arlovski in UFC 191
It was recently reported on last week’s edition of UFC Tonight that the UFC was targeting a heavyweight bout between No. 4-ranked Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski, and No. 10-ranked Frank Mir, a bout that has now been confirmed during the live pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast of tonight’s (August 1, 2015) UFC 190.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was effectively left for dead back in 2011, having suffered four straight losses, three of which ended in grisly knockouts.
On the other hand, Arlovski (24-10) is now riding high on a 5-fight winning streak and has won 3 straight matches inside the Octagon since returning to the UFC previous year.
Mir, a Bonanza graduate, held the belt in 2004 only to be stripped when he was out of action due to a motorcycle accident.
Mir himself also lost four straight fights before springing back to successive back-to-back knockout wins against Silva and Todd Duffee.
UFC 191 takes place on September 5th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson headlining. Arlovski has been undefeated in his second UFC run, most notably defeating Travis Browne at UFC 187. Arlovski-Mir will serve as the evening’s co-main event.
Although no venue was announced, UFC’s past two fight cards in Sao Paulo happened at the 11,000-capacity Ibirapuera Gymnasium.
Belfort won in devastating fashion when they locked horns again in November 2013 when he knocked out Henderson with a head kick in the first round.
