Nokia 8 offers ‘bothie’ to replace the selfie

There was a lot of confusion going on in the past year or so about the name of Nokia’s high-end flagship. What is possibly the most exciting feature of the phone, the “bothie” is supposedly the next step of the selfie revolution. In terms of software, the Nokia 8 comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1, with regular updates for the same as promised by the company. Nokia is using the LCD 2.5D display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Apple and Samsung now account for around 70 per cent of the mobile niche, meaning that it will obviously be hard for any new product to establish itself. Around the front there’s a 5 MP camera, meanwhile.

Finally the dimensions of the LG G6 (above) are 148.9 mm x 71.9 mm x 7.9 mm, it has a 5.7-inch LCD screen with a 2880 x 1440 pixel resolution, and it weighs 163 grams. The device, which will have an IP54 rating, sports dual 13MP rear cameras and a 13MP selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture.

The company has partnered with Zeiss to bring the nostalgic, Carl Zeiss camera.

Nokia’s “Bothie” feature seems pretty interesting and unique, but to use it you’ll have to wait for the Nokia 8 to launch in India.

The gimmick isn’t new, and it isn’t popular, though one could argue that the lack of popularity is due to the lack of an easy way to use both cameras at once. More importantly, the instant Facebook Live and YouTube Live streaming capabilities of Dual-Sight will be the world-first of its kind.

Even with other competing brands in the market, there are convincing signals that Nokia will take over the market leadership back with the new device already exciting consumers as a result of its innovative features.

The Nokia 8 is the ninth mobile device made by HMD Global, which has acquired the rights to make and sell phones under the Nokia brand. In addition, the battery capacity stands at 3,090mAh and the phone itself does provide support for Quick Charge 3.0. Presenting, the Nokia 8, which was announced on the 15 August 2017.

The Nokia 8 will go on sale in Europe in September, starting at about $700 (€599).

HMD has collaborated with the regular Apple partner Foxconn in the production of this mobile. Nokia 8 comes in dual-SIM and single-SIM variants.

Just a day after announcing the Nokia 8, HMD Global hinted that a new smartphone with a bigger screen is now in development stage. “It’s nearly impossible to meet the expectations of the Nokia name offering only a selection of feature phones and low to mid-range smartphone models”, Fogg told CNBC.

Some of the other features that make the Nokia 8 a unique phone is the polished mirror finish body, which is also said to be splash proof. That’s not the most you’ll ever pay for an unlocked flagship smartphone, but it’s not far off.
