American Horror Story: Cult’s First Real Trailer Preys On Trump-Era Terrors
They’re creepy, dark, odd and downright frightening, sometimes more so than the show itself. Indeed, he unexpectedly dropped a bombshell late one evening on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, revealing the stunning game changer that season 7 will be about the US presidential election.
The first official trailer for Cult premiered on Tuesday, revealing a more thorough look at the seventh season of FX’s hit anthology series than ever before.
Sarah Paulson plays Ally, one-half of a couple (her partner is Ivy, played Alison Pill) living in MI who flips out when Donald Trump wins the election.
What are your thoughts on the newly leaked spoilers for American Horror Story Season 7?
Ally’s mental state appears to deteriorate in the wake of the election; she confesses to her therapist (Cheyenne Jackson’s Dr. Rudy Vincent) that her fear of clowns has been getting worse.
Ally and her partner are wrecked over the results, which seem to exacerbate Ally’s coulrophobia – aka an abnormal, intense fear of clowns.
The AHS: Cult opening titles, released yesterday, showed Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton masks being donned by mysterious figures – could Kai and Winter be the ones wearing them? Meanwhile, Evan Peters’ character is seen yelling with joy at the declaration.
Winter admits to Kai (the leader of the titular cult?) that nothing fills her with more dread than children, making her apparent gig babysitting Ally and Ivy’s son more than suspect.
The season will also feature Colton Haynes, Billy Eichner, Lena Dunham, Chaz Bono and the return of Emma Roberts, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, Frances Conroy and Mare Winningham.
After skipping an opening credits sequence for last year’s Roanoke season, series creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have doubled down on the creepy factor for this new one.
