Wenger slams sluggish Arsenal’s ‘cheap’ defeat
Alexis’ partner in crime, Mesut Özil, looked really off the pace in the entire game without the Chilean worldwide alongside him.
Arsenal had an appeal for a hand ball rejected by the referee after Erik Pieters handled the ball in the area but was fortunate not to be charged by the referee. “We had the highest penalties against us at home by a mile and the lowest number for us”.
However that was not the case, although our new signing Alexandre Lacazette managed to rattle one into the back of the net, it was ruled offside by less than an inch.
“So I give you just the numbers, I don’t say anything else”.
Leicester, the 2016 champions, bounced back from defeat at Arsenal to beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at the King Power Stadium through Shinji Okazaki’s first-minute goal and a Harry Maguire header. The system was first used by Wenger at the tail end of the last campaign and could well now be ditched for another, which in turn will be used until the same underlying weaknesses render it a failure too.
Joey Barton insists Mesut Ozil does not deserve to be blamed for Arsenal’s defeat at Stoke, claiming the midfielder is the “easy person to pick on”. It works out in some games but it is definitely not something you can be doing going into a 38 game season. “It is hard to single anybody out”. ‘Personally, I don’t think he deserves it, ‘ he said of remarks from TV pundits Steven Gerrard and Martin Keown.
Sanchez has missed Arsenal’s first two games of the season with an abdominal strain, but Wenger is hoping he will be available at Anfield after returning to full training last week.
Jese, who is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, surged through midfield in the 47th minute and exchanged passes with Sadio Berahino before slotting an impressive finish past Petr Cech. My view is the deal with City eventually gets done. We’re glad he’s in our colours because he’s going to light up the Premier League. “I feel we had plenty of chances to score and didn’t”, Wenger told BT Sport.
“He’s not up to speed yet”.
