Murray avoids potential Federer semi-final in US Open
“We are all wondering the same question”, four-time U.S. Open John McEnroe told reporters during a conference call to promote ESPN’s coverage of the U.S. Open on Wednesday.
How many Mercedes Benz cars do you actually own?
“I don’t see any of them winning it”. I’m getting a 1960s V-class bus. For me, only once he retires I believe he won’t win anymore. He’s back at the U.S. Open after sitting it out a year ago.
That rest can be incredibly positive.
“People who’ve been waiting for me to come back strong, maybe one more time, I’ve given them even more now by winning a couple of Slams this year”. He has suffered some pretty bad losses over the years in matches that he really should have won. It doesn’t really matter to me. “It just sounds totally surreal to me”, Federer said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I don’t think we are both thinking that far ahead”.
ATP contender: Roger Federer, seeded No. 3, is the man everyone has been talking about. Fashion shows in Paris, I always wanted to go to those.
Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal have shared the first three majors of the season, and with the latter returning to No. 1 you’d be forgiven for thinking we’re in a time warp. The interesting things about the three-time Grand Slam victor are, firstly how his hip is feeling and secondly, how he plays now that he is no longer the World No. 1 player.
“The American crowd is going to be very respectful of Maria and I would think she will get a warm reception coming back”, Chris Evert, a victor of 18 majors during her career, said this week.
The dark horse for me though could be Madison Keys; the young American has been fighting her way back from injury this season and has performed well on the hardcourts over the last few weeks with a victory in Stanford, which included a win over Muguruza in the semifinals.
Does tennis have an injury problem?
“For me, I think about Lajovic”. He (went) a little bit away and looked at everything from the outside again. [Milos] Raonic, he’s been hounded with injuries lately.
Having won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year to take his overall tally to 19 majors, the 36-year old insists he must be “realistic” about his chances at the event. It’s like a reset.
“We never played in NY so I think that would be fun for everybody involved”. It’s a big difference.
Murray fell at the same stage to American Sam Querrey and has also not played since due to a troublesome hip, but is expected to feature at the US Open starting on Monday.
“I believe that I did the things well enough during the whole year to be ready to compete at the highest level in NY”. Just because it worked for the guy who’s the conductor, doesn’t mean it’s going to work for everybody else.
What did you learn about being father and family man in that time? I’m actually letting it fly off my racket. You know, at 6 a.m., wake up and say, “I don’t have to sleep til nine to actually feel like I can take 10 steps out of bed”. The Romanian has yet to beat Sharapova in their six matches, although this will be their first match for nearly two years.
Federer, though, would love to face his rival for the first time in NY. He is 17-1 on hard courts this season, ready to land winners that allow him to think beyond the early rounds.
