Ivanka Trump Supports WH Move To Halt Obama-Era Equal Pay Proposal
The Trump administration’s 37 percent gender pay gap is far worse than the 25 percent wage gap during the George W. Bush presidency and the 11 percent pay gap in the past year of the Obama administration. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.
It’s clear that, after an initial period of awe at the sheer power of their positions, Jared and Ivanka have been stung by the vitriol directed at them.
The decision prompted outrage from groups who note that women and minorities still aren’t receiving equal pay for equal work. Businesses know they’ll be more likely to get on the hook for unequal pay if they have to report their pay structures disaggregated by demographics, so that’s likely why they don’t want to do it. At least it was publicly.
In 2016, Obama proposed the rule, which would require business owners to document worker pay alongside information about their gender, race, and ethnicity. This would all be super helpful in the effort to close pay gaps.
The Trump daughter has been an opportunistic advocate for women’s rights-including paid family leave, affordable childcare, and “equal pay for equal work”-since she joined her father’s campaign previous year; on “Equal Pay Day” in April, she tweeted, “We must work to close the gender pay gap!”. Well, yes it is.
The couple was seen as a potential moderating influence on President Donald Trump when they joined the White House staff, but their high-profile roles have quickly exposed their personal and professional limitations, according to a deeply reported article in Vanity Fair. “And we’re going to continue doing everything we can from our side to help in that”.
I am sick and exhausted of hearing Republicans talk about burdensomeness on corporations. I don’t care if a corporation has to spend a little extra money to dispose of toxic waste instead of dumping it in our rivers and lakes and streams.
SANDERS: I think the president certainly shares the values of Americans. So here we are again, still somehow disappointed in Trump’s lack of support for gender equality. If a corporation has to hire two or three new people to do this yearly paperwork, then that’s great. “He was very impressed, and has been, with the level of, as he said, “love” and the “spirit” and the “cooperation” that you’ve had with so many different people, different agencies – state, local, and federal officials”.
And let’s be real, at this point, who’s actually shocked?
That person is nowhere to be found in the Trump administration, apparently, as the order has been put under review by the Office of Management and Budget, with its implementation halted.
