Putin says Trump ‘not my bride, and I’m not his groom’
After meeting South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Russian leader Vladimir Putin called for talks with North Korea, saying sanctions are not a solution to the country’s nuclear and missile development. Meanwhile, China wants to be sure that a Democratic government does not replace North Korea’s leaders on its border. “It would be very hard – actually, impossible”, Putin told reporters.
United Nations ambassadors Vasily Nebenzya, Liu Jieyi and Nikki Haley on September 4.
Washington’s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, is expected to unveil yet another new UN sanctions package targeting Kim Jong-Un’s regime this week.
He echoed the USA ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley who said the regime seems to be “begging for a war”.
But Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday a USA bid for the Security Council to vote on September 11 on new sanctions is “a little premature”. U.S. Pacific Command even released photos last week of B-1B Lancers dropping bombs on a range on the southern side of the demilitarized zone that separates the two Koreas. In comparison, U.S. President Donald Trump has supported using “maximum pressure” on North Korea through economic sanctions and the threat of military action.
“We have supplies of 40,000 tonnes of oil and oil products to North Korea a quarter”, Putin said during a briefing after a BRICs summit in China.
“At the same time, it is clear that it is impossible to resolve the problem of the Korean peninsula only by sanctions and pressure”, he said.
Those warnings came after North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test.
China and Russian Federation have both since distanced themselves from that approach. North Korea doesn’t do anything without the permission or at the direction of China. We believe this action was unwarranted and detrimental to the overall relationship between our countries.
“I very much hope that we will be able, as the current President of the United States [Donald Trump] was saying, to find some compromises in settling bilateral and worldwide issues in order to ensure that they were resolved in the interests of both the USA and Russian people, and resolved in the interests of many other countries, meaning our special responsibility for global security”, Putin said. “We must not be overwhelmed by emotions and drive the North into a dead end”, he continued.
Connecting the South’s railway with Russia’s Trans-Siberian Railroad, a 9,288-kilometer (5,771-mile) railway between Vladivostok and Moscow, has been an ambition of all South Korean presidents since Seoul established diplomatic relations with Moscow in 1990.
U.S. ally Britain backed the United States call for stronger sanctions. The United States runs a trade deficit with South Korea.
“I am allowing Japan & South Korea to buy a substantially increased amount of highly sophisticated military equipment from the United States”, Trump said in a tweet.
On Thursday, the South Korean leader will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for bilateral talks before attending the third Eastern Economic Forum, largely aimed at enhancing economic cooperation in the region that includes the Russian Far East.
Chang Kyung-soo, acting chief of the Defense Ministry’s policy planning office, told lawmakers in Seoul on Monday that North Korea was readying a missile firing, but didn’t give a timeframe. North Korea has previously threatened to launch missiles toward Guam. Either Canada and Mexico agree to rewrite NAFTA to our advantage, or we pull out; either China stops deflating the cost of its exports, or we impose tariffs; either North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members take on a greater share of mutual defense obligations, or we stop participating in the alliance; either Pakistan cracks down on the Taliban, or we cut off support for that country.
But the North Koreans said the nuclear tests will continue.
