Journalist organisations up in arms against Gauri’s killing
■ Lankesh, a writer, publisher and editor, had returned home in her vehicle and was opening the gate when she was shot, with two bullets hitting her in the chest and one on her forehead, police officials said. Mainly she fights on the Freedom of Press. Reporters have been murdered in the past in India, but the violence has mostly happened in small towns and targeted those who had taken on vested interests in local communities.

Gauri Lankesh has been known for her strict and gutsy stories and she was a huge supported for Hindu acts. “These atrocious crimes should be stopped and action on these cases should be rightly given”.
Gauri was quite outspoken against right-wing fringe politics.
The murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh has sent shock waves across the country.
The incident happened when Lankesh, after parking her auto outside the gate of her residence was walking to the main entrance.
“A Special Investigative Team, headed by an IG will be constituted”.
“The silencing of a journalist in this manner has risky portents for democracy”, the Indian Women’s Press Corps said in a statement.
“The law and order in the state is good and as a precautionary measure the government has directed the police department to provide security to the progressive thinkers in the state following the attacks on writers and progressive thinkers”, he added.
Although she was a pro-left activist, some theories suggest that Left wing members might have been involved in her murder. She was part of a group that worked for communal harmony.
Gauri was in the thick of the Naxal movement in Karnataka.
The Committee to Protect Journalists has said that there have been no convictions in any of the 27 cases of journalists murdered for their work in India since 1992. This is beyond freaky!
