He drew comparisons to former Toledo and current Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt earlier this week – Campbell coached him with the Rockets.
Iowa State: The Hawkeyes looked like they had put the game away after touchdown drives of 91 and 94 yards put them up 21-10. “He made a lot of tackles and that’s what we needed from him”.
“The play we scored on, it was one we felt good about and when we got the look, we went out and executed it, ” Ferentz said.
“It was a dog fight”, Wadley said. He finished with 112 rushing yards on 20 carries with one touchdown and five catches for 53 yards.
“For him to do this on the road….this is such a tough environment for us to come into”. It’s a superlative effort by Wadley, to be sure, and I’m not trying to rob him of credit for a great play.
This year the teams will meet at Jack Trice Stadium, in Ames, and they will be on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. central time if you are watching from home.
“There were a couple calls he made that I would have second-guessed, except they worked”, Kirk Ferentz said about his offensive coordinator.
The competition goes back a lot of years.
Wadley’s touchdown gets style points, and it also gets points for being crucial. Wadley wasn’t thinking of scoring when he caught the ball. I’ve been in the same situation plenty of times, when you should have caught the ball. “I really didn’t have to do anything to go get it”. He had one carry for nine yards. Wadley also caused havoc as a receiver out of the backfield, turning four receptions into 72 yards and a second score.
“You saw the game last week where the defense bailed us out”, Wadley said. “This is the way this series is, “Ferentz says, “we been on the short end of this one down in that same end zone, same spot coincidently, not that long ago”. “You have to get through it, keep fighting”. ISU coach Matt Campbell can’t find the right words to describe Montgomery. “Our kids know we are a different football team”. “I wish I knew”, Montgomery said of what has come to make it so hard to bring him to the ground.
ADDING ON: Iowa State’s Lazard continued to add to his own school records, catching a pass in his record 37th consecutive game when he scored on a five-yard pass play to give Iowa State a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
