Nebraska Preview: Cornhuskers at Oregon
“It will be important that we minimize penalties and turnovers because we can’t have those against a team like Nebraska”. However, Lee threw four interceptions as well. Nebraska now leads the all-time series against OR, 6-2.
At halftime, the Oregon Duck mascot went to midfield, where he crushed the word “Cancer”.
Nebraska did neither in its 42-35 loss to OR on Saturday, and shouldering much of the blame was Husker quarterback Tanner Lee. Nebraska ball with 4:56 left to play.
OR punched Nebraska in the mouth from the opening whistle. The Ducks needed just five plays and 1:42 to get on the board first.
Senior receiver DeMornay Pierson-El finished it by jumping over freshman cornerback Thomas Graham to catch a 23-yard touchdown pass from Lee.
Though it will be tough, Nebraska has the football talent to pull off a come-from-behind win in Eugene over the Ducks. Ducks lead 14-0.
Nebraska heads into Eugene to take on the Ducks as a fairly heavy underdog.
Update: The Huskers trail 42-14 at the end of the first half.
It certainly seems the Ducks have taken that command to heart.
OR stretched its lead out to 28-14 with 7:10 left in the second quarter with a one-yard run from Freeman. “He looks comfortable with what they’re doing, and in some fashion it’s a continuation of stuff he’s done in the past”. He’s also showing some zip on the ball. Fitting. The Ducks did, after all, amass 77 points and 703 yards of offense in the season opener and then proceeded to spend the opening half against Nebraska proving those figures weren’t a fluke. The 95-yard drive was Nebraska’s longest scoring drive since a 97-yard touchdown drive against Wyoming last season. After intercepting the ball at the Nebraska 34-yard line, OR uses three plays to drive straight into the end zone for another touchdown. In a way, you could say that Pierson-El owned that defensive back on this touchdown catch.
OR leads 14-7 with 3:03 left in the first quarter. In Week 2 a year later, the No. 5 Sooners returned the favor, outplaying, overmatching and overwhelming the No. 2 Buckeyes in every facet of the game in a 31-16 win.
Oregon’s defense was mostly solid and often spectacular. The Beavers have rushed for 54 yards through the game’s first 20 minutes.
OR has the ball up 14-0.
Herbert provided the former Oregon State coach with some more nightmares as he connected with former safeties Brenden Schooler and Charles Nelson for touchdowns before capping the blitzkrieg with a 17-yard dart to Mitchell in the end zone. On fourth-and-10, Morgan gained 22 yards on a catch-and-run, and then hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass on the next play.
The Ducks lead Nebraska, 14-0. Defensively Nebraska is going to have to play considerably better in the secondary, if they give up that kind of yardage to OR it’s going to be a long day. The Ducks gave up 361 yards and 35 points but more importantly picked off four passes and forced seven punts.
Minnesota at Oregon State, 7 p.m. He has lost the other six games while coaching at Oregon State.
HISTORY: The Huskers won last year’s meeting in Lincoln, 35-32. The Ducks will be seeking some revenge today against the Cornhuskers.
