Eagles vs Redskins Scores and Updates
Upgraded wide receivers: This will be the Eagles’ first game with their revamped wide receiver corps. So, while this might not be one of the marque match ups of week one, it is most certainly one of the most intriguing.
From that first game in 1934 until November, 1942 the Eagles won a total of two games over the Redskins.
With that in mind, the magnitude of the end result should not be lost amidst all of the cause for trepidation in the Eagles’ season-opening 30-17 win at FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon.
Sunday’s tilt with Washington will also be a test for the Eagles defense, especially the much-maligned secondary.
Still, the issue wasn’t that Cousins was unprepared.
That followed a year in which Cousins led the Redskins to an NFC East Division title after recording 4,166 yards, 29 touchdowns, 11 picks, a league-best completion percentage of 69.8 percent and a passer rating of 101.6.
Will the Redskins take it and run or fumble it away?
Crowder is questionable with a hip injury, and if he doesn’t play Sunday it could open up more playing time for Doctson along with Pryor, Ryan Grant and Brian Quick.
But it wasn’t just about the receivers. For the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, they get a chance to start the season out that way.
With his team facing a third-and-12 on its first series against the Washington Redskins, Wentz escaped a ton of pressure in the pocket, ultimately lobbing the ball to Nelson Agholor downfield for a touchdown.
Cousins should not throw high to a 5-foot-8 receiver under duress. The Eagles had 59 yards on 23 carries, including several handoffs on a clock-draining fourth-quarter drive. Cousins also should not have a ball slip out of his hand under duress, leading to a return for a score.
Same as last season, the Eagles will have the starting quarterback as Carson Wentz and in backup: Nick Foles. In this day and age of low-contact practices, there is no substitute for what takes place in an actual game. But that’s not surprising. Wentz was overwhelmed with pressure on numerous occasions that he dropped back to pass. Likewise, the Redskins said goodbye to DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon this offseason. The third year wideout did the rest, taking the toss 58 yards to the end zone to give Philly an early 7-0 lead. Doctson was the first-round pick previous year and made only two cameo appearances as a rookie while dealing with Achilles’ tendon ailments of his own. He made some aggressive calls that backfired, and like his mentor, Andy Reid, relied heavily on passing instead of a balanced attack.
They will do that cleaning on the fly, not necessarily a good thing for a unit that needs time together to gain cohesion.
