Election commission official: ‘High possibility’ no changes will be recommended
There are dead people on registration rolls.
The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity will meet today at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, St. Anselm College, starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4:30 p.m.
Dunlap has come under fire from fellow Democrats and election fraud experts for agreeing to participate in the body, which Trump set up after making evidence-free claims that he would have won the popular vote had there not been millions of illegal ballots cast in the 2016 election.
The lawsuit was joined by the New Hampshire Democratic Party and is backed by Priorities USA, the largest political action committee supporting Clinton’s campaign, according to the Washington Free Beacon, which reports that “Priorities received $9.5 million from [George] Soros throughout the 2016 election cycle”. The claim was so swiftly and easily dispatched at a fact-finding hearing in Manchester on Tuesday that it dramatically illustrated the foundation of the entire enterprise – a search to justify voter suppression laws on any and all grounds possible no matter the lack of evidence of actual voter fraud. And critics reply, “What problem?”
We have seen similarly specious arguments from other purveyors of the voter fraud myth.
So the truth isn’t out there? Among them is the Crime Prevention Research Center’s John Lott Jr., who will advocate for background checks for voters, and last wrote about fraud and elections in 2007.
“Non-citizens are registered. Non-citizens are voting”. Kelly Ayotte lost by razor-thin margins last fall, have borne the brunt of these allegations.
In 2008, comedian Al Franken became a United States senator by a margin of just 312 votes.
The incident illustrated one of the main problems the panel faces as it goes forward with its stated mission of finding ways to instill more public confidence in USA elections: The voting process is complicated and data are hard to come by, a point several witnesses emphasized on Tuesday.
Lott seems to believe this would enable authorities to review criminal history and immigration status, if someone renounced American citizenship and just to “check if the right people are voting”.
That’s not an indictment of Al Franken. “If they have established their residence in New Hampshire, they may have failed to obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license”.
Panel topics include Historical Election Turnout Statistics, Current Election Integrity Issues Affecting Public Confidence, and a Primer on Electronic Voting Systems and Election Integrity. This is the law that requires that citizens be able to register to vote at Departments of Motor Vehicles. Why?
E-poll books do not track how, or for whom, voters cast ballots.
But the facts are catching up with them – and they know it.
Registering to vote and casting a ballot in New Hampshire while having a driver’s license from another state is legal. But New Hampshire’s law is somewhat complicated because the Granite State makes a distinction between being a “resident” of the state and being “domiciled” in the state.
Sweeney is a former state representative who was also an election clerk in Nashua for 26-years. “If they choose to hold their primary [before anyone else], you can strip the state of any delegates so that no delegates are awarded and you can sanction candidates who are running there”.
Many people, for various reasons, choose not to go to the DMV to get a new license upon moving to a new state, most commonly, college students from out-of-state who live on campus and don’t drive.
That law may be affecting the outcomes of some races.
Ayotte lost to Hassan by just over 1,000 votes out of almost three-quarters of a million ballots cast.
Kobach’s column referred to what he said were recent statistics that showed “there were 6,540 same-day registrants who registered to vote in New Hampshire using an out-of-state driver’s license to prove their identity”.
The event will feature three panel discussions and a demonstration of “Historic New Hampshire Voting Machines Still in Use Since 1892”.
