After Hurricane Irma, violence over food strikes Caribbean islands
The British Virgin Islands are made up of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke along with 50 other smaller islands including Necker.

Irma was a category 5 hurricane at the time with maximum sustained winds of 185 miles per hour. He did not reveal how many prisoners had been recaptured or were still at large.
As Hurricane Irma passed and the clouds cleared, NASA observers noticed something different about the Caribbean islands that had been battered by the storm – they’d changed color.
French President Emmanuel Macron, gauging the damage to the formerly idyllic islands of St. Martin and St. Barts, said rebuilding efforts would focus on modern residential structures created to withstand enormous storms. Officials on the tiny two-island nation said it will seek global assistance.
The BBC reported the total damage across the Caribbean region could total $10 billion.

The extent of the severe damage Hurricane Irma left behind is still being revealed days after the storm struck the Caribbean as a Category 5 hurricane.
Dominga Tejera picked her way around fallen palm trees rotting in mud as she returned home after a nine-hour workday as a hospital janitor on a Caribbean island that until recently seemed like paradise.
Overnight, the storm pounded the chain of pristine keys and tourism resorts that stretch along the coast from central Camaguey province to Villa Clara province, and it was headed toward Varadero, Cuba’s most famous beach getaway.
Another hurricane, Katia, made landfall in eastern Mexico late Friday killing two people, just as the country grappled with the deaths and damage inflicted by its worst natural disaster in a century.
Aid rushed in to hurricane-scarred Florida early Tuesday as officials pieced together the scope of Irma’s destructive path and displaced residents awaited word on hard-hit areas including the Florida Keys.
Although Irma was downgraded to a Category Two storm, it was still packing unsafe winds of up to 105 miles (169 kilometers) per hour as it neared Fort Myers, a major tourist destination in southwestern Florida.
In a blog post on Virgin.com, Sam’s sister Holly wrote that “people have been left with nothing”.
It is understood that the foreign secretary will visit the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.
But many like Tejera are struggling to maintain a semblance of the life they had before Irma as they fight off hunger and thirst.
“This is an absolute priority for our Government and we understand the huge economic blow that has been suffered in these islands”. The group is asking local residents to donate food, clothes, financial aid, and other relief items to the Tobago Emergency Management Agency, Newsday reported.
Boris Johnson has defended the Government’s response to Hurricane Irma, insisting that criticism of its reaction to the “biggest consular crisis” the country had faced was “completely unjustified”.
But he denied the United Kingdom had been slow to react.
“I have lost everything”, she said, on the edge of tears. “I will shake up all the rules and procedures so the job is done as quickly as possible”.
On Sunday, the French government announced that President Emmanuel Macron would travel to the Saint Martin, an island split between France and the Netherlands, on Tuesday. “I have never seen anything like it”.
