It movie: Pennywise actor ‘thought something awful would happen’

The cinematic adaption of Stephen King’s classic horror novel It has managed to send chills down the spines of both the children and adults.

Even before the release of the movie, the World Clown Association [yes, such a thing exists] issued a warning that the film could cause clowns to lose job opportunities. No doubt, this movie will have its legion of fans, but for us, it failed on so many levels, ugh.

Bill Skarsgard stars as Pennywise the Clown, who terrorises young children in Derry, Maine.

Apart from that, the plot is pretty much the same – seven kids, all social misfits who call themselves “The losers” club’, begin to experience visions and physical embodiments of the things they fear, after a tragic incident occurs with one of their siblings. Where Pennywise was before ‘Pennywise.’ And we shot it for additional shooting and the scene turned out REALLY, REALLY disturbing. I will spare you the details and gore that go along with the encounters. Horror fans will get the frightening performance they crave from Pennywise, while those like me who just want a good story can follow the Losers’ Club as they grow from scared kids to confident teenagers, albeit with some frights along the way.

When asked about how he prepared for his role, Skarsgard said he spent hours trying to get the right smile for Pennywise.

Bear in mind that no such montage exists in King’s acclaimed novel, although a similar Pennywise scene was part of previous director Cary Fukunaga’s script, which had a previous incarnation of Pennywise playing a saloon piano in the 1800s. This movie is as much about the loss of innocence and the deep-seated fears we all faced as kids as it is about a shape-shifting killer clown.

So now, dim the lights, kick back, relax and let Pennywise the Clown take you to your happy place of subtle frights and thrills. “Then, one day you realize that’s not true”.

After collecting the balloons and making special effort to tie real string instead of the curling ribbon to make them all the more authentic, I placed them with glee and we headed to the show.

The movie itself was in my opinion, something that was worth watching and watching again. Wolfhard projects an obnoxious rendition of Richie with over the top profanity, cheesy puns and crude jokes about mothers and sexual acts. Some have made their fears reality and it is to their demise. We have no doubt many will enjoy this movie, even with the gags and clichés. I am excited for the next chapter of IT to come out in the near future.

The 2017 It sports a very different look from the original, with more makeup and effects used to create the truly terrifying image.
