Interviews with the Cast of Kingsman: The Golden Circle
The Matthew Vaughn directed sequel has more than doubled the $1.4 million preview night earnings of Kingsman: The Secret Service and is tracking for a $40 million-$45 million debut this weekend.
Credit Vaughn and writing partner Jane Goldman for thinking so expansively in plotting a sequel, and not merely reprising Firth’s pub smackdown and other first-installment highlights.
Following the successful limited worldwide IMAX run of its predecessor in 2015, Kingsman: The Golden Circle reunites director Matthew Vaughn with stars Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, along with franchise newcomers Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges.
The Golden Circle picks up exactly a year from the events of the first film.
Continuing to work from a comic book series by Matt Millar and Dave Gibbons, Vaughn edges Eggsy toward a more committed relationship with his live-in girlfriend, Tilde (Hanna Alstrom), a Swedish princess he rescued from peril in the first outing.
With their headquarters destroyed and the world held hostage by a villainous drug lord (Julianne Moore), members of Kingsman find new allies when they discover a spy organisation in the United States known as Statesman. This way Poppy can come out of hiding and be celebrated as a true businesswoman.
Elton John tickles ribs in a hilarious yet caricaturised avatar, even as the film attempts to satirize the office of the US President and almost succeeds at it. Huge surprise for me! Unfortunately, this is as good as The Golden Circle is ever going to get.
The sequel lacks the first movie’s essence.
The action scenes are insane and outlandish, but quite fun and intense. The movie immediately starts off with a bang, with a big fight/chase scene.
“And, you know, it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but it certainly gets people talking”.
Upset with what the war on drugs has done to her business and societal status, when even sugar is “eight times more addictive than cocaine” (a fact I did check on and seems to be a topic of much debate), Poppy wants to right this wrong and bring all drugs to the open market. He’s really turned into one of my favorite actors because of the off-the-wall roles he chooses.
Over the last couple of months, via various wannabe-cool film-makers, I’ve heard a whole bunch of Bowie, T Rex and plenty of faux-ironic American hair metal thundering out of my local multiplex’s sound-systems over the top of fight scenes and vehicle chases from Atomic Blonde to Baby Driver and back again.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is in theaters now. You kill of a loved character and I don’t think he wanted to cheat so he meant it at the time.
