Giants coach Ben McAdoo not interested in discussing Odell Beckham’s celebration penalty
“So hopefully we get help with the run game with him”. “When there are too many penalties, it makes it tough to win that way”. Starting safety Rodney McLeod and versatile defensive backs Jaylen Watkins and Corey Graham got hurt last week against Kansas City.
As for the Giants, the first two games have been forgettable. Chance Warmack got beat early on, but the line as a whole stood up to a fierce challenge from a good defensive front from the Giants. On Sunday, they visited the red zone five times, but the Eagles’ injury-ravaged defense held them to two TDs.
NY did everything it could to claw its way back into the contest in the final quarter and earn that first victory. A lot was made of Beckham’s penalized touchdown celebration early in the fourth quarter when the three-time Pro Bowler got down on all fours in the end zone as if he were a dog, drawing a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty when he lifted his right leg to imitate urination on the turf.
While never a featured running back, Sproles has been a valuable contributor to every team he has played for.
NY called a timeout in an effort to ice Elliott, but Lovato made sure not to snap the ball back to Jones because “we didn’t want it to get in his head if he missed it”. Manning had tossed a 2-yard TD to Shepard, but he was ruled out at the 1 after a review. It ended with the Eagles in a joyous embrace after rookie kicker Jake Elliott hit a 61-yard field goal as time expired to give Philadelphia the 27-24 win over NY. We’re trying to go 2-0 in the division and 2-1 with our overall record. But his kick was dead solid flawless.
Play of the Game: There were a bunch in this one, including a goal-line stand by the Eagles in the first half, but the last one was the most important. As always, Bob Papa and former Giants linebacker Carl Banks will call the game. He’s 4-for-6 overall, missing a 52-yarder wide left against the Giants, before bouncing back to hit 46-yarder with:51 to tie it at 24-24, then the historic 61-yarder as time expired to win it.
The preface: Before the game, coaches watched Elliott kicking on the field and decided they’d call on him if the kick was 56 yards or closer.
This isn’t a good week to face the Eagles, who get after the quarterback with a fury. The zebras spotted it and correctly flagged Qualls for delay of game.
Carson Wentz’s passing numbers hardly were remarkable Sunday. Sixty-one yards is a long kick, man. Wentz completed 21 of 31 passes for 176 yards on the day, with a touchdown and no interceptions.
There was some confusion when Jake Elliott first began walking through the Eagles’ locker room a few weeks ago. An incompletion, followed by a 19-yard pass from Carson Wentz to Alshon Jeffery put the ball at the NY 43 with one second to go. He’s also 10th with 245 yards. Normal enough story, till one second remained in a 24-24 Eagles-Giants tie at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
Then there was his running. If we didn’t, Doug (Pederson) wouldn’t have let him kick the ball. On the opposite sideline, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie locked arms with players like Jenkins in solidarity for the movement Colin Kaepernick started a year ago.
Wentz also had an 11-yard scramble for a first down on a third-and-8 play on that 18-play drive.
