Conte urges Hazard to dazzle against Manchester City
It’s always hard at Stamford Bridge, the last champions of the Premier League.
His men have lost just once all season but that has been enough to open a gap behind the top two. Andreas Christensen is playing well and showing he is a really good player. More impressively, over the course of those six games, the Citizens have conceded only one goal.
It can be easy sometimes to get wrapped up in the hyperbole of the Premier League, where every week is Super Sunday and every defeat a crisis, but this game should be worth the hype – two in-form, elite teams, going toe-to-toe with plenty at stake.
The boss was also asked about Sergio Aguero – who is expected to miss tomorrow’s game because of an injury sustained overseas – and whether he was comfortable letting his players travel when they have days off. He was sent off for a reckless lunge on Sead Kolasinac in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw against Arsenal, and is therefore sidelined for the game against City.
Lukaku has a great chance to add to his total, with second-place Manchester United at home to last-place Crystal Palace (10 a.m. Saturday, NBCSN and Universo). For sure, our fans try to push us from the start until the end. There’s no question that no matter which player Guardiola chooses to fill in, Chelsea will look to focus attacks down their right to test the City stand-in. The Spaniard has helped compatriot Alvaro Morata to settle at the club with a superb on field understanding with the striker, registering four assists this season, all of which have teed up goals for the 24-year-old.
Now the Blues must embrace this latest challenge. Morata will represent the biggest threat to Ederson’s goal on Saturday and Otamendi and Stones will have to do a lot to contain him from scoring.
Premier League leaders City take on the champions having won their last seven games in all competitions and sit three point ahead of Antonio Conte’s men at the summit. They are also in the 1st position in the Group F of the Champions League following a 2-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. The improvements so far this season are clear for everyone to see, with players more adjusted to his system, but trophies must follow the handsome football on display. They have also removed the dependency on individuals by creating a competitiveness within the squad that is pushing their stars to reach their limits. When there is a room to travel to go see a game.
“We need to be ready and show our mentality, especially in these games”.
Aguero has scored in eight successive starts away from home in the Premier League – one short of the PL record of scoring in nine away starts in a row, set by Robin van Persie (December 2010 & May 2011). Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus scored five goals each.
Hazard has only started two games for Chelsea in the opening part of the campaign after missing the Blues’ pre-season due to an ankle injury sustained on worldwide duty in June. I want the players to be happy.
