About that Jerry Jones-Donald Trump phone call …
“You have to have an open ear and an open mind so they don’t have to do this”.
They threatened to remove the Super Bowl from a city if that city said that men who identified as women should not be allowed to use the women’s bathroom. Did he kneel? Op, now he’s awful. As a result, players on almost every National Football League team showed some type of solidarity by kneeling or linking arms before Sunday’s games.
A year ago last August, a courageous athlete named Colin Kaepernick took a stand – by refusing to stand. Others, though, noted how the whole scandal has now been diverted from its original goal, which was to keep media attention on the issue of police violence, and that the hubbub over race and the American flag are making people forget why Kaepernick “took a knee” in the first place. In one particular game, Cleveland Browns players knelt in a circle while teammates stood above with a hand on another’s shoulder. While 71 percent of Republicans and 36 percent of Democrats said past year that players should be required to stand for the anthem, those numbers are now 84 percent and 23 percent.
Oh, and the National Basketball Association also has a rule against it. Bill Russell, Jim Brown, some of these people from the 1960s, Arthur Ashe – I put him in that class.
And, truth be told, I believe I am part of the problem. “If that were to happen, we’ll deal with it when it happens”.
“If you know anything about President Trump, he just goes after people, that’s just his style”, Jones said.
“I’ll say one more thing”.
“Clearly people have a right to express themselves, that is the First Amendment”. They also released this statement, “These are complex issues that require in-depth discussions and nuanced debate”. “One of the core principles of this country is freedom of expression as well”.
Several players and coaches suggested they locked arms to show team unity in the wake of Mr Trump’s comments. The Saints issued the following statement, “Our organization takes great pride in equality and inclusion and find the comments by the president disappointing and inappropriate relative to our players on this issue”. “But this is more important to me than that”. Others have defended the players’ right to disagree. “I look forward to the return of good governance”.
As a fan rather than a critic, may I offer a suggestion to you regarding the national anthem? Of course, if this continues, that might not be possible anymore. “I mind kneeling, and my father minds kneeling”, he said.
If you don’t like what those kneeling football players are doing, then perhaps it’s you who is not standing with the troops. That’s a real possibility. If they lose the die hards who are giving them a pass this week, they soon will be sliding down a very slippery slope to disaster.
National Football League protesters must either accept that, as Americans, we all have differences in opinion, or come to grips with the alternative: Most of the millions of Americans who watch National Football League players every year simply don’t agree with them on this issue. A ton of local sports bars and hangouts in New Orleans have announced that they will not be showing the New Orleans Saints games moving forward. First, whether they realize it or not, players are disrespecting the sacrifice and service of American soldiers.
COLLEGE OOPS: In other news, “FBI brings Armageddon to college basketball, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg.” Oh.
