Permit pulled for Oregon ‘Red Bull Flugtag’ over river traffic
A Stateline flugtag team made the top 10 winners at the Red Bull Flugtag competition in Portland Saturday.
Degener said it is Red Bull’s responsibility to make sure they don’t disrupt commercial river traffic.
The Portland Spirit cruise ship complained to the Coast Guard that its vessel could not get past the glob of spectator boats, so the event was cut short. Jarmer says had there been an injury associated to the impact, significant damage to any property or possible criminal behavior, the sheriff’s office would have investigated.
Loud speaker messages instructed boaters to clear a path for the boat.
After this weekend’s incident, someone created a Facebook page boycotting the Portland Spirit.
“The Spirit has been in business for 21 years and this the first time a water event organizer has failed to maintain a safe navigation channel as required by their permit”.
The recent scrutiny of racism in the 2018 World Cup host Russian Federation has expanded to include the world’s largest energy drink brand, after a video from a Red Bull event in Moscow showed a Barack Obama impersonator chasing a banana.
Almost 90,000 people attended the event along Tom McCall Waterfront Park, as dozens of teams with homemade flying machines competed on a 28-foot-high ramp built by Red Bull.
“There was an impressive number of boats on the water and due to concerns of overcrowding from the U.S. Coast Guard, the contest ended early…”, Red Bull said in a statement.
Officials said the next commercial vessel expected to pass by the Hawthorne was set for around 5 p.m., which is when the Flugtag was tentatively going to wrap up with an awards ceremony.
