Sniper in high-rise hotel kills at least 58 in Las Vegas

Now we’re hearing from victims who survived the deadliest mass shooting in USA history.

The gunman was found dead in the casino and is believed to have killed himself, Lombardo said.

Lombardo initially said that 16 weapons were found in Paddock’s hotel room, where he had been staying since September 28.

Police found 23 guns in Paddock’s hotel room and more than a dozen firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition at his Nevada home, as well as explosives.

The Nevada native has left at least 50 dead after opening fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival from the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Aldean and his crew were unharmed, he said in an Instagram post, calling the incident “beyond horrific”.

The shooting was the third attack on a major music event in recent years. Among those killed in the attack were West Virginia grandmother Denise Burditus; Adrian Murfitt, a commercial fisherman from Alaska; Sonny Melton, a registered nurse from Paris, Tennessee; Danae Gibbs, a recent graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

She moved to the U.S. about 20 years ago and reportedly shared a house with Paddock in a new golf course development in the desert just outside Mesquite, Nevada, 80 miles northeast (130km) of Las Vegas.

“It sounded like fireworks, just lots of popping… and then the music stopped and then more popping and then everybody hit the ground”, he explained during a Skype interview with CityNews.

Two Las Vegas police officers are being treated at a local hospital for injuries they sustained during the shooting, Lombardo said.

“The shots just kept coming”, another witness told KLAS.

“We’re working with the cops since the first thing, trying to you know understand, trying to make it do what we could”.

Harrison said they eventually decided to make a run for it. The gunman is also said to have sent his mother a walker as she had trouble walking. The Bakersfield officer’s injuries were not life-threatening.

At least 59 people have died and more than 527 have been wounded as the gunman sprayed bullets into the crowds from a hotel balcony. One is in critical condition and the other sustained minor injuries.

In September 2012, Stephen Paddock filed a negligence lawsuit in Clark County District Court against The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas over a fall at the Strip resort.

Interstate 15 was briefly closed, and flights at McCarran International Airport were suspended.

He called the mass shooting “an act of pure evil”, adding “In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one – and it always has”.
