US House of Representatives votes to ban late-term abortions
Now the measure has full support from the White House.
“The House was right to prevent painful abortions on unborn babies, and we call on the Senate to bring up the bill and pass it as well”.
President Trump already supported stricter regulation on abortion during his campaign.
“We are grateful to President Trump, Leader McCarthy, and our pro-life allies in the House of Representatives for championing this compassionate, popular bill”.
“It is extraordinarily heartbreaking when an unborn baby is diagnosed with a severe and life threatening abnormality; still, that baby deserves a right to life and right to dignity”, she said.
“It’s a test of our basic humanity and who we are as a human family”, said Franks, who said it is now “time for the Senate to take a stand”.
“Very late term abortions are an extreme and barbaric practice”, Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, the bill’s sponsor, said in a statement.
Thus, “any health care practitioner present at the time shall humanely exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to a child born alive at the same gestational age in the course of a natural birth”. Trump issued support for the bill even before he won the election.
The rape must be reported in the victim’s file with “a hospital licensed by the State or operated under authority of a Federal agency, a medical clinic licensed by the State or operated under authority of a Federal agency, from a personal physician licensed by the State, a counselor licensed by the State, or a victim’s rights advocate provided by a law enforcement agency”. “We don’t wish this to be true, but research may soon confirm that unborn babies can’t experience pain until much later in development”.
Quigley and other supports of the act often refer to it as “Micah’s law”, for a young boy said to have been born 20 weeks after fertilization who is now starting kindergarten.
“Ending the risky and violent practice of late-term abortions should not be controversial”, Johnson said in a statement. Speaking Monday, Republican Senate Whip Sen.
“That’s not a near-term priority”, Cornyn replied. PPAF also writes, “20-week bans are unconstitutional”.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund also called the legislation “dangerous”. “Roe v. Wade is a firewall that women rely on, but with every passing year and every new session of Congress, politicians have tried to chip away at it brick by brick, hoping it will crumble away”. The Supreme Court previous year refused to review North Dakota’s ban on abortion as early as 6 weeks of pregnancy and Arkansas’ ban on abortion at 12 weeks of pregnancy had been struck down by lower courts.
The bill states the women who receive or attempt to undergo an abortion past 20 weeks “may not be prosecuted”, and does make an exception for pregnancies in the case of sexual assault, incest, or those that endanger a mother’s life. Other studies cited in the review found that the capacity for “functional pain” in unborn fetuses “probably does not exist before 29 or 30 weeks”.
The measure will now go to the Senate, where it would need at least eight Democrats’ votes to pass – an unlikely scenario.
But he said Tuesday’s vote is important because it forced lawmakers to come out for or against late-term abortion and raised awareness about the prevalence of the procedure in America.
Daniel Lipinski, from the 3rd Congressional District of IL and cosponsor of the bill, voted yes on passage of the 20-week abortion ban.
