Forget about ‘gun control,’ let’s repeal the Second Amendment
Why Won’t Gun Control Advocates State The Truth?
Numerous guns used in these killings reach military level weapons power, guns which now remain legal. John Thune (R-S.D.) recently suggested that instead of passing restrictions on guns, “people are going to have to take steps in their own lives to take precautions”, and if you find yourself in a mass shooting, you should “get small” to make yourself less of a target.
The gun control debate is essentially over, according to Charles Blow – who said it’s time to examine the harmful pairing of the Republican Party and the NRA. Go be angry in the direction of something that matters, like when will General Mills release chocolate peanut butter Cheerios!? In fact, I suspect that is exactly what will happen.
The National Rifle Association assumes the mission of defending these words on the right to bear arms, evolving over time from a club meant to ensure rights for hunters in post-Civil War America into one of the most notorious and powerful lobbying organizations in US history.
“As over 90% of gun violence is committed by men, in order for a man to purchase a gun, he must first get a waiver from his current wife, plus his most recent ex-wife, or any woman with whom he is now in a relationship (if he’s gay, he must get the waiver from his male spouse/partner)”, Moore said.
And boy, oh, boy, do they ever do its bidding. And those legislators that support the NRA share this responsibility. Between 77 and 141 of those killed were children. NRA membership would explode. The organization’s propaganda campaign has allowed it to seemingly sit on this moral perch as it proudly defends Second Amendment rights that each and every American citizen is guaranteed at birth (except if you’re Philando Castile, of course), even if those same Second Amendment rights had everything to do with the right to bear arms against the Red Coats in 1791 and nothing to do with personal gun ownership in 2017. That makes sense since the police have initially said he didn’t have a record of prior offenses. Shills of a feather, and all that.
The Washington Post’s Catherine Rampell drilled into the data a bit more in 2015, and found that millennials lined up with the population at large in their views on proposed background checks for gun purchases – large majorities favor the measure – and some other provisions. I learned to properly handle firearms early. Do laws expanding gun possession, concealed or not, actually “save lives”? I get that the hunting rifle your grandfather passed down to you gives you a strong and meaningful connection to him. And maybe some shooters don’t use assault weapons, but enough do that they should not be available to anyone who wants to buy one.
Glaze is now a senior adviser to Guns Down, a group that advocates for what officials there see a bolder approach to gun-control legislation.
What’s that? It’s still too soon? The Bill of Rights preserves the rights of man donned upon us by the Creator, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be regulation of those rights. However, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton from MA, soon after the tragic shooting, made a decision to take a stand against gun violence by boycotting the congressional moment of silence for the victims.
